  • Last tournament for Ivanchuk?

Many big surprises in the World Cup, such as the defeats of Radjabov, Morozevich and Ivanchuk.

Here Ivanchuk says that he want to definitely take his retreat... http://ugra-chess.ru/eng/interv_10.htm

    I think...Ivanchuk will be back :).

How many times have I heard chessplayers (of all levels) say they were giving up chess after a poor result :).

Some even go as far as selling their chess books...only to return to...Caissa :)

What is that tune you sing, Gordon Ritchie :)

As in true Ivanchukian style, he looks very animated in the press conference photos. He probably wants to hide his head in the sand because he feels he played poorly. But that's chess... you can't win them all, not even Chucky!
No matter how big and bad you are, when a two-year-old hands you a toy phone, you answer it.

He will be back for sure. However, he says so ... because of his strange behaving.

Short, and sweet news for us chess lovers.

Though I had been hoping to run a retirement poll: Which would be better, Kasparov as President of Russia, or Ivanchuk as President of Ukraine? I know how I would vote.

Ivanchuk trying to quit chess is like me trying to quit ICC. It just is not going to happen. Anyone who believed differently is stupid.

What would be better is seeing Kasparov atop the chess world once again... but that's as likely to happen as Ivanchuk quitting chess or Nakamura quitting ICC ;)
