Its pretty cool that James Canty III won the heavyweight title. I played James once that I recall and it was one of the few times in a while that I lost on the black side of an Italian as he conjured up an attack that I just didn't handle well. Detroit is where many Windsor players go to play chess.

On chess boxing, I would never recommend it as it is very dangerous for untrained persons to get into a boxing ring. If you are a boxer and a chessplayer, it might be okay. The potential for someone to get hurt very badly is there.

I met James in NC, and he's a great unique guy!

And yeah, don't get in a ring without true training.
Hell, even with training, it's "forever dangerous".

Two years ago, a Montreal chess player (Ellis Steinberg) won the under 80 kg championship. He also has a martial arts background.

Do a YouTube search for "Ellis Steinberg" to see his various matches.
