Rd 12 Deshmukh pressed forward with her pawns but ended up putting them all on white squares (same color as her bishop). She then had to watch helplessly as her opponent manouvered. Insteal of defending passively she opened up and resigned before checkmate.

Rd 12 Anna Muzychuk played creatively to force a winning endgame but instead of playing the winning move, blundered. A complete tragedy. Draw.

Rd 12 Lahno self destructed. In a winning position she overlooked her opponent's counter resources. Assaubayeva won.

Rd 12 Vaishali mishandled the opening and in a fairly chaotic position overlooked tactics (unusual for her) and lost to Zhu.

Rd 12 Bluebaum vs Caruana went into a queen and pawn endgame where there just wasnt enough to win. Draw.

Rd 12 Esipenko Pragga went into an endgame where Pragga has two extra pawns but it was White who was threatening connected passed pawns on the kingside so Black (Pragga) gave perpetual check.

Rd 12 Wei Yi got an attack - somewhat - definitely not enough to win - but in doing so his own king was exposed and he had to suffer through a lot of checks. Fortunately (for Wei Yi) Giri did not have enough to win. Draw.

As of now its interesting to see that besides Sindarov (at plus six) only Giri has a plus score (plus two).
All the others are 50% or less.
Caruana is equal at 5.5 out of 11.
All the others are in the minus.

Sindarov after round 12 now stands with 6 wins and 6 draws undefeated, a total of 9 points. Two games left to go. After 11 Giri has 6.5. He needs to win all three remaining games to achieve 9.5.
As far as I'm concerned Sindarov has won the candidates. I guess we will wait and see.

Rd 12 Esipenko vs Pragga Starts out English but becomes a full blown Reti with hypermodern treatment (7.b4!) and sacrificing a pawn with a semi-open F-file and Bb2. We are being treated to exciting games today!

Rd 12 Bluebaum vs Caruana We get to see the classical QGD with 6.Qe2 and 7. Bf4 a la Capablanca. A real treat with a modern treatment.

Wei Yi pulls out the Vienna Game against Giri. Theory goes back to the 1800s and maybe further. A romantic surprise. 1.e4, e5 2.Nc3, Nf6 3.Bc4, Bc5 4.d3, O-O 5.f4, exf4 6.Bxf4. c6 7.d4, Bb4 8.Ne2, Nxe4 9.O-O A pawn sacrifice with full compensation. This should be the most exciting game of the round.
