Rd 11 Pragga against Bluebaum has played the weird Nxe5, Nd3 and Nf4 with the Q on f3 and the other knight on c3 hitting the black pawn formation d5 supported by c6 in the Russian Defence (Petroffs). Another offbeat position.

Finally the position at move 19 has normalised. Pragga has very active pieces.

Rd 11 Nakamura and Wei Yi have rattled off 18 moves in the Catalan. Wei Yi has come up with some tricks and Nakamura is finally having his first major think.

Game draw by three move repeat.

Rd 11 Giri has played Bf4 in the QGD and has a comfortable position against Esipenko.

Giri has maintained an edge throughout the middlegame.

Rd 11. Caruana opened Nf3 but soon transposed to the Catalan. Sindarov immediately captured dxc4 and then played 7...Nc6 provocative and psychological (but mainline theory) and Caruana immediately played 8.Bxc6 So much for the Catalan bishop, its gone. Its a game of prep. The position left on the board at move 17 has White with better developed pieces, Qe3, Nc3 and Rb1 controlling the open B file. Black's pieces are basically undeveloped - Qe7, Rf8 (having just castled) and a problem of where to develop the Bc8. Black's pawns on the queenside are shattered and a mess but he is temporarily a pawn up.

Unique position. We, as fans, await developments.

Rd 11 Tomorrow Carauna as White last chance against Sindarov. Put on the pressure. I'm curious what opening will be played.

Sindarov's win was his sixth - a record in the modern Candidates. That's domination!

Rd 10 Lahno's pawn up against Tan wasn't enough to win.
