All games have tight (close) positions coming out of the opening. Giri has the biggest computer advantage hovering around 0.5 with a spike to 0.8

By move 20 Caruana had used the most time with 48 minutes left on the clock. On move 21 Caruana is down to 35 minutes

Now replaced by Esipenko at move 23 having 32 minutes left (and counting) as he tries to make his way against Sindarov. Sindarov is sitting comfortably at 1 hour 15 minutes left.

Rd 8 Nakamura and Caruana have entered a double rook endgame.

Both rooks doubled on the seventh for both sides and Nakamura breaks through!

Rd 8 Giri has two knights and a queen, always dangerous.

Rd 8 Wei Yi's slight advantage out of the opening has disappeared under Bluebaum's persistent defense.

Wei Yi has managed to come up with some attacking ideas.

Judith Polgar is weighing in with analysis.

Giri forces through the E-pawn! Nice pressure game from Giri from start to finish.

Wei Yi plays an exciting attack short of time. He sacrifices a rook but its just short of working! Draw.

                    • After eight rounds Sindarov is two points up on Caruana 6.5 to 4.5 and Giri also has 4.5 with his nice win moving to plus 1.

                      • The last three games of round 8, Nakamura vs Caruana, Giri vs Pragga, and Wei Yi vs Bluebaum were very exciting. Impressed with Bluebaum's defensive skill. Impressed with Judith Polgar's analysis.

                        • Who is going to stop Sindarov? Its critical now. He's two points up on the field with six rounds to go but more importantly he is playing fearlessly and great strategic chess.

                          • Rd 8 In the women's four nice long endgames. In one key game Anna Muzychuk missed at least one key win on the way to an upset loss by Divya Deshmukh.

                            • Also Lahno used her two bishop advantage decisively in a tough endgame grind.
