Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links

12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.

14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.

In a nutshell, they forgot to mention the volcano which spewed enough ash to shut down air flights for many days. Nasa isn't the final word.
One thing the ever increasing hydro rates in Ontario will do. It will ensure the auto makers won't sell as many electric cars as hoped. More expensive to recharge and who knows how much higher it will be in 5 years.
I have struggled for a while on what to call "them". I agree that "skeptic: is the wrong term; and that "deniers" is much more accurate a term. After all, language descriptions are very important, for example "climate change" is much more accurate than "global warming" in talking about the changes. I will henceforth try to remember to call them "deniers" who are intent on "obfuscating", trying to befog or becloud or muddle the issues with their fibs, falsifications, falacies, and falsehoods, and mendacities, prevarications, and taradiddles (tarradiddles), also known as pretentious nonsense.
These terms are all apt descriptions of the denial movement thinking.
By the way Tom, my wife and I both bike into work each day. I converted my house from an energy audit rating of 35 up to 69 which is great for an old house, my hydro bill varies between $35-45 per month as opposed to a household average of $120 per month; I installed a superefficient (92.7%) boiler to both heat the house and domestic water (via a heat exchanger), all the toilets are dual flush (3/6 liters), the house has 0.2 air changes per hour (ACH) which is better than code of 0.3 for new houses and improvements are still ongoing (just limited by my time); solar panels and rain collection feeding directly into toilets are hopes for the near future...
I know that you also do very well yourself on these items.
The problem with climate science is that the leading experts have been caught lying and bullying. Before 'climategate' I supported what I believed the science showed. I certainly didn't believe the chicken little 'the sky is falling' environmentalists such as Greenpeace + Al Gore.
Climategate changed all that. They were caught lying. They were caught bullying people by threatening their PhD's and the peer review process. Face it, climate scientists have zero credibility because of their own activist behavior. You can call the skeptics 'deniers' all you want... they can just respond that climate scientists aren't actual scientists... they are activists.

Adam, thanks for that link to TVO. Some very interesting video. There is one with Jeff Rubin talking about the future of oil prices. He is predicting rapid oil prices, hitting $200/barrel soon. Transportation costs will rise, this will offset low labour costs in the far east, and manufacturing jobs will begin returning to North American. Interesting!

No actually, they weren't. But even if they were, so what? Facts are facts, and the facts are in from multiple sources that all agree on them.
Face it, climate scientists have zero credibility because of their own activist behavior. You can call the skeptics 'deniers' all you want... they can just respond that climate scientists aren't actual scientists... they are activists.
That response, of course, is just a lie. You can "disprove" anything you like as long as you feel free to repeat lies freely.
Jason, Climategate is nowhere near as devastating as you seem to feel it is. Also if you use to *believe* in Climate Science you obviously have not studied it enough(you should accept science because of facts and evidence not just believe in it).
he has a lot of good videos on climate change, and a couple about Climategate and why the media blew it way out of proportion by making it a conspiracy theory. This is one of his videos on the topic.
