    Re: Visiting masters

    Hi Dan:

Was that in a simul, or in a tournament. I think Stephen is looking for cases of the former.

        Visiting Masters

In the new Fischer book by Karsten Muller called Bobby Fischer, there is a preamble immediately before the games from the 1956 Canadian Open in which Muller says, "The September 20, 1956 issue of Chess Life reported that on Labor Day, September 3, Fischer gave a simultaneous exhibition at the Montreal YMCA (+18 =1 -0)."

Was he a master then or does that matter to our historians?

          Re: Visiting Masters

I take a fairly liberal view of the term "master" - the mentioned Fischer simul is already part of the table.
