  • Question for Tom O'Donnell

I'm writing notes to your game vs Sambuev at the RA Winter Open, and I found your game vs Foisor in the Megabase (below).

Is it a typo, or did he really play 22...Rxd4??
I'd like to write something more than "WTF" here...
Did he intend to capture on a2 but picked up the wrong pawn?

    What happened??

I do not recall much about that game, except that Foisor was very gracious in the post-mortem. I doubt I played 21.Rab1, but probably 21.Rhb1. I think that game is in one of the EPs that contained the report(s?) on the World Chess Festival. Maybe a different score can be found there?

      Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately I don't have access to the old EPs. [can anyone else look it up?]

If your memory is right --- and I'm sure you'd remember a higher rated IM throwing away a Rook --- then all the digital sources of this game are wrong, since Canbase, Chessbase and chesslab.com all have the full game as I posted it, and Informant 45 game #310 ends with 21.Rab1 +/-.
