Just to briefly update those concerned, Guelph and Waterloo have come to a mutually agreed upon arrangement, and will be jointly hosting next year's event on Waterloo's campus. More details will follow as the event draws closer.

Thanks to the universities of Waterloo and Guelph for stepping up! As was discussed at the planning meeting in Toronto on January 16, there is plenty of organizational experience available to assist with the planning of this successful annual event, for 2011 and beyond. People such as Alex Ferreira (U of T), Tyler Longo and myself (Queen's), and Alex Lambruschini (Queen's graduate and still an organizer) have run successful events, and can offer assistance to the Waterloo / Guelph group. :) :) :)

My first piece of advice to next year's group would be to secure IA / IO Hal Bond, who lives in Guelph, as chief arbiter and organizer, and pay him some money for this. Check his schedule to see if he is available for the scheduled dates in January 2011. We at Queen's retained Hal to help with our event in 2009 and that worked out very well, and he also helped to run the event at Guelph in 2008.

I'm going to be presenting several of my major ideas for post-secondary chess development, as first discussed briefly at the January 16 meeting, in a subsequent post.

DATES: 15-16 January 2011

REGISTRATION: $100 per team (including rating fees) Free outside Ontario and Québec.
A valid CFC membership is required for each team member, and can be purchased on site.

AGENDA:
Friday: Arrival of Players
Saturday: 9:00-9:45am (Captains register teams); 10:00am; 2:00pm (Rounds 1 and 2)
Sunday: 10:00am; 2:00pm (Rounds 3 and 4)

A brief Captains’ Meeting immediately following Saturday’s final round, with awards to follow the last game on Sunday.

Don't worry about us, Tyler, we'll be there :)
We've already booked 4 rooms at the Walper, not sure how many teams we'll field, either 3 or 4.

With the event a few days away, you will notice that Western has decided to give the rest of the teams in the event a sporting chance by leaving Raja at home. Meanwhile, with 3 reserve players, there is some question as to whether Queen's will submit a third team at the last minute.

Though U of T has submitted a list of players, I am still waiting on confirmed rosters. Based on the list, I am anticipating 2 teams, each with one reserve, but that Alex character is always full of surprises. As for Waterloo, I have not received final word on their proposed roster(s) for the B Section.
