Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links

12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
GM Anton Kovalyov won the Quebec Junior with a perfect 5-0 score. Three other masters (Louie Jiang, Nikita Kraiouchkine, and Sankalp Modwal) tied for second with 4-1. 36 entries. Hopefully - games will be available soon.
Too bad Anton is not changing his federation to Canada from Argentina. He'd be a great entry in the upcoming Canadian Junior in Toronto at Hart House. He'd be a formidable entry in the World Junior for Canada.

I don't buy this kind of logic. Too bad we need to import players that are developed in other countries to put Canada on the map in chess. Too bad that homegrown players have almost no chance in the Canadian system ( only exception being possibly Calgary area ).
The pride Canada used to have developing players like Spraggett, Suttles etc seems to be long gone.

Unless he were to transfer immediately, the new FIDE fee for him to switch to Canada is 30,000 euros, so I'm not sure if the CFC is that well off yet :)

30,000E !!!? That is preposterous.
Only a crook like Illusionof could get away with that.
Last time I checked the GM transfer fee was 5,000SF - which I thought was absurd. All this money going to FIDE, to do what with. As far as I know FIDE does not put up the money for the World Championship match. They skim a hefty slice from the organizers of that event as well!
Now if 80% of the transfer fee was going to the Federation that loses the player that would make some sense.
Is there somewhere a FIDE financial statement? Or is someone simply pocketing the funds? If FIDE is a vehicle for thievery than Canada should secede from FIDE immediately.
The heavy money refers to quick transfers. Anton has been living in Canada for more than the requisite 2 years so it's only the FIDE transfer fee of 100-200 Euros.

I agree and don't be too surprised if you see me playing under the US flag in the near future. There's just almost no benefits of myself staying. Only thing would be the Olympiad... but looks like that will be taken by imports judging by the rating list.

I don't think we "import" players. Some just happen to find refuge here for many reasons, our chess life I suspect not being the main one. What we need to import though from other countries are their ways to sustain a rich chess life instead of trying to reinvent the wheel at every turn.

But what would be the point for him to go the the World Junior, unless he would get paid to do so ? He is already a 2600+ GM! But last week-end he played (and of course won) the Québec Junior (!). Why ? Because at stake was a 2000$ expense account for future chess events, thanks to sponsorship by Pepsico, Fritolay and Quaker. My guess is that he will remain under the argentinian flag until he sees at least one good reason to change. That could be a well funded olympic team or a great Canadian Closed, whatever happens first...
But what would be the point for him to go the the World Junior, ... ? He is already a 2600+ GM!
The World Junior Champion title gave a spot at the World Cup. Don't know about this year. His rating is only 26xx ;) The last year 27xx played at WJC :D

The last year 27xx most probably got a fee from his federation, all expenses paid for him and his paid trainer. Within these conditions I am quite sure that Anton would like to play the Canadian Junior.
