If its not an ambarassment for me (I value criticism, especially from the most corrupted sources...:)) why should it be one for Chesstalk ? But I get your point.
Now, when are you going to vote ? :)

This poll is just a veiled attack on someone who knows chess, the chess business and has substantial experience.

I don't know Jean. I've chatted with him briefly in the mid-80s in one of the Toronto International tournaments.

I agree that this poll, and any like it, are crap Michael. That's why I didn't vote in it. I don't want to encourage their proliferation.

I'll disagree on the embarassment to chesstalk aspect though. I don't think it even makes the top 10. :)

        Well said!

Personally directed polls have no place anywhere even on this dysfunctional board.

          Hi Neil:

I agree. I didn't vote in it for the same reason. I think the only reason Larry has allowed it is that Jean himself doesn't seem bothered by it. If he had complained about it, I'm sure Larry would have removed it.

Have you received any invitations from this? When I started writing my wisdom on the international correspondence message boards, invitations to play started coming. I would be asked to play and if I agreed an invitation would be sent to the federation. There were too many to play as my maximum was 40 to 50 games in total. These days I'm playing much fewer.

If you aren't getting any invitations, either you aren't outspoken enough or you are doing this on the wrong forum.

One of the funniest things which happened is someone invited me to play in a reserve section in an OTB event here in Ontario. He knows who he is and is probably reading this. I politely refused. There was no point in telling him I don't play in reserve sections and I would require a healthy appearance fee to get up early enough to come and play. No free ones. :) I think he even expected me to pay an entry fee which is even funnier.

I shall ask you the same question, Jean!! After all, the poll is about you, so shouldn't you take part? :)

That's funny. Now it seems that I don't complain enough! :) There are many reasons why Larry wouldn't want to remove it. There are no obscenities, no insults to speak of and people love it. Even those who would like it to be removed come and peek... People easily forget that a "clean" message board that draws no attention and no viewers isn't very useful. Those organizers advertizing their events here should be grateful for threads like this one.

It would be a lack of modesty. ;)

It is no great thing to be humble when you are brought low; but to be humble when you are praised is a great and rare attainment.

It's embarrassing that chess players can't spell "embarrassing".

What do you expect ? How many 12 letter words should someone know how to spell ? :) Personnaly I only expect chess players to be able to spell "Fischer" and "Hébert" correctly.

Actually...I can not spell in English...nor in French...it is a good thing I don't know any more languages :). In Quebec we call it bledinde :)

Jean, your English is much better than most... I wish my French was as good! Hmmm...and maybe even my English LOL

                          Agreed.

It takes folks who have thick skins...people who are prepared to take the good and the bad...just because someone says something...does not necessarily make it true :)

If I am still doing chess, for a living, for over 30 years...in a country like Canada...it is because...I have a very thick skin...some would say other things LOL ... :) :)

                            Hi Larry

Did you happen to get a pic of the BC grade 1 champ getting his extra cash prize? and any reaction?

Just curious-seems like good free publicity for you!

We did make a special presentation and there was great applause...not sure about the pictures...we can do it better next year :)

For you and I, "better than most" is simply not enough. :)

It’s not enough that we do our best; sometimes we have to do what’s required.
