    Jean,

You must have some good web sites on quotations!

      To Adam Cormier,

Since that voting seems about over and that you are the one who started this poll, what have you learned from it if anything, besides good quotes ?

        Re: Opinion of Jean Hebert

I have learned quite a bit about people's allegiances on this forum, I find it interesting how educated people fall on both sides of the fence as well as in-between (just like on the existence of God). I'm still saving my vote but for now I'm leaning towards 50/50.

Despite all of the fantastic quotes my favourite is still,
"It is a good thing for an uneducated man to read books of quotations."
        Sir Winston Churchill

For what this silly thread is worth, I highly value Jean Hebert's opinions, especially when I do not completely agree with him. He is a towering figure in Canadian chess with extraordinary experience in all forms ranging from correspondence to OTB at the world championship tournament level. He has also shown great passion for and dedication to our game, as witnessed most recently by his wonderful chess reports.
Jean Hebert is truly one of the great men of Canadian chess.
Keep it up, my friend. You have a devoted audience for your views, the more controversial the better.:D

And to avoid misunderstanding, Churchill meant it literally. There was no sarcasm in it. Which partly explains why I am seriously thinking about a book called "Quotes and maxims for chess players".

It is unbecoming for young men to utter maxims.

maxim - a saying that is widely accepted on its own merits
I fail to see Aristotle's reasoning behind that quote.

Sorry to be picky, BUT, sharing an opinion with someone, or even being generally in agreement with someone's opinions, does not necessarily mean that you have an allegiance to that someone.

Larry Castle-George Carlin is one of the greatest comedians of all time in my opinion, his routines never get old.

Peter Mckillop- true it does not necessarily mean they have an allegiance with him or not, but if there was a debate you would either be on his side or against him, that is what i meant by allegiance, looking back it is probably the wrong word to use in that situation.

I enjoy reading your opinions in the thread:
