    Some positive chess press...

On the Front Page at the top of the print version of the Ottawa Citizen for Jun 18th there is a caption and photograph about chess champ Agastya Kalra going to play in Turkey, having been chosen by the Chess Federation of Canada.

I couldn't find the article on the online version.

I'm not familiar with the "World School Chess Tournament" and the CFC's role in supporting it. Is there a qualifying tournament? Who chooses the Canadian representative(s) and is there funding identified in the budget?

Why do I think it was acclaimed, then chosen

I can't say that I disagree with helping some of our young players get international exposure. That is what the Pugi Fund is there for.

Perhaps the CFC didn't actually sponsor the two players, just give them a seal of approval.

Funding this when our Olympiad Team is scrambling for money doesn't seem too bright though.

            Hello Paul,

All that CFC did, was to name them as Canadian representatives (based on their request). This way they have free acomodation. As far as I know, with the exception of WYCC, there is no direct funding for any tournament except those coming from Pugi Fund.

Maybe they figure those are better players.
