Could anybody recommend an online French>>English translator to understand the Chesstalk French part? As I see, that part is quite busy :)

You could try Google Translate, just keep in mind that a lot of the words (especially chess-specific terms) won't be very exact.

I've read through it a bit. I have some trouble following it at times, but there's some good stuff in there. Like Pierre Denommee getting all mad and threatening legal action because someone else is daring to run a "Montreal Chess Championship". Exactly the sort of thing that will persuade Governors to maintain the FQSE as an affiliate ;)

The nature and objectives of the play d' failures

The play d' failures is played between two adversaries which in turn move parts on a square plate called chess-board. The player having the white parts begins the part. A player refers when its adversary carried out its blow.

L' objective of each player is to put the unfavourable king under attack in such a way that l' adversary n' does not have legal blow which can avoid the capture of the king to the following blow. When a player reaches that point, qu' is said; he subdued l' adversary and gained the part. It is interdict to leave its own king in failure, to expose its own king to a failure and to capture the king of the adversary. L' adversary which was subdued lost the part. If the position is such qu' none of the two players n' with the possibility of subduing, the part is null.

The initial position of the parts on l' chess-board L' chess-board is composed d' a grid of 8 out of 8 is 64 boxes of equal size alternatively of clear color (boxes known as white) and dark (boxes known as black). L' chess-board is placed between the players in such a way that the angular box with the right-hand side of each player is white.
