          Hi Kerry:

Not sure, but I thought Nathan Divinsky owned Chess Chat ( don't know where or when I heard that ).

Chess Chat was based in BC for some time, and I believe Divinsky was part of it. It got taken over by Hamilton interests (Frank Szarka and Blasko Gabric - if I'm not mistaken) in the 1970's. That would explain the Hamilton-based bank accounts.

              Canadian Chess Chat

After Frank Szarka died, I think around 1987, it ceased publishing for a year or so (no issues in 1987). Then Michael D. Sharpe (Toronto) began publishing with issue # 2/1988 and it went on (albeit, somewhat hit and miss with multiple number issues) until an issue numbered 1/6 of 1992. It may have been that MDS purchased it from Szarka when he was sick, I can't recall the circumstances.

I later found the person who had taken over (or continued) the printing shop Szarka used to print the magazine and asked him if he had any old issues still in the shop. Small bonanza! He had many old issues, full year sets of the years Szarka had owned Chess Chat and many magazines and books that had been sent to him from exchange partners. Alas, the printing shop owner told me he had already thrown out about half of what had been there to make room. He further said that he was just about to throw out the rest and was happy to have me haul it away (which I gleefully did!). Happiness and Sadness!
