Re: Great Photos - 2010 Canadian Open Chess Championship

Zeljka's been working hard all week, taking photos of the main and side events; training me on MonRoi's system with the help of the GM simul players; sending out the press release with the games; and giving a product demonstration to the FIDE Arbiter Seminar participants.

Some comments on the side events (see Zeljka's photos!). Everyone's having a great time!! I don't know if a GM has even given up a single draw yet. But they've all been so nice, so easy-going. One GM let his opponents choose colour and even opening! Merab Gagunashvili and Luke McShane each worked with the kids at the day camp - see MonRoi and ChessBase for photos. They got along so well with them, the kids were so happy. The kids even got autographed scoresheets, thanks to the GMs and the MonRoi devices they got to play with, and Zeljka making printouts afterwards.

Another interesting time was had with GM Shabalov. He gave a 960 simul, which introduced a Canadian invention by Michael Sutton of Toronto: starter dice. You roll the five dice, and the throw determines which of the 960 starting placements you have. Shabalov had a hard time that day, because with opening theory out the window, he was into the middlegame immediately on every board! Afterwards, his lecture was extremely well attended.

Tomorrow: Hans Jung's blindfold simul at 11:30! Signed up: 3. Need: 2 more, must be < 1800. Just show up, and we'll draw lots if > 5 want to play.

imho, chess-results.com (Swiss-manager - an "official" Olympiad pairing program) does the best by representing tournament results.

In a mood of Ken Craft - the CFC should work to get a deal with Swiss-manager, than SwissSys :D
