  • Hambleton - Friedel 1-0 (Rd.6) - moves ?

It seems that FM Hambleton had a miniature win against GM Friedel in 21 moves
But at monroi site - starting with move 15 ... Nb3+, the moves must be wrong
    19 ...axb4 is even illegal

Everything looks ok and legal. Great win for Aman! Could this be a GM norm before an IM norm?:)

Yes, now it is all legal - it was changed to 15.b4 but still some remaining moves are "dubious" ?!
The last move (21.Qh7+) is spectacular! Is it possible that the GM did not see it?

I sure hope he didn't see it or someone might get accused of sandbagging. =]

I hate to say it, but it might win the brilliancy prize :(... but mostly on account of who his opponent was.

            Is 21.Qh7!! or !!!

The game looked very unclear. Anyway 21.Qh7 has to be a double or triple exclam, for sheer shock value. A take-me queen move leading to a forced mate! GM Friedel must have realized this after a few seconds, wow.. his heart must have hit the floor. With 3 rounds to go I don't think any Canadian can top Aman's performance now. He is on FIRE! Keep it up!

It scares me that Friedel is at 4.0... some good player is going to have a hell of a match up next round. I'll probably get stuck against some FM or IM; but at least I'm unlikely to have to worry about him :)

Rybka on my crappy old laptop thinks black was totally winning with NC1+, with a -11 evaluation. Also Qxg5 is also winning, Rybka thinks. Well, calculates...
