Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
I received 2 (separate) white copies of scoresheet games. Both had no pgn header info in it, except for one of the two games: John Erickson (black). So I asked him if it was his scoresheet or who he played, identifying one scoresheet as the opponent of Aaron Both vs him. Patrick said to return white copies to players who may have wished to pick them up, & Aaron claimed his scoresheet later when he was tracked down. As for the other sheet (a separate game), we weren't sure which it was processed at - apparently until now. Patrick would have a/the white copy of that scoresheet. Bob Gillanders was showing off one of his Mississauga or Burlington games on Saturday from his Kitchener bye during the previous night, & we were not sure if it was his or many others.
Thanks for the help in identifying/correcting the games.
A couple more games are added tonight to complete the player listing, & to make sure that each player had more than a loss game on their game listing. More to come tomorrow, since tonight is a club night in KW.
Richard glew rounded out the 10-player field of the Canadian Senior Championship. The other 9 players should be featured in the games of this section. Ralph Deline of the Waterloo regional area took 1st overall with 6/7, & has the opportunity to represent Canada at the next stage of the World 2010 Senior (age 60+) championship.
Due to non-chess related employment, & receipt of merely a free hotdog (okay, a GOOD hotdog...) for scoresheet input contribution services, not all scoresheets (there's some 200+ mixed white & yellow, some unnamed scoresheet copies) have yet been uploaded. In receipt of a hotdog, I have conceded that I would not require submission of an invoice to the Organizers or CFC for a potential grant-money tendered. ;)
In another thread, Mr. Hebert recently inquired about the remaining games of the Ontario 2010 Closed. 6 out of the remaining 12 of the 13 submitted games follow below. With any luck, the other 6 may arrive by Friday. Yesterday at club night, we traded USB stick games, & Patrick MacDonald had offered to (eventually) provide a games viewer on the chessfest site.

The final 6 submitted of 7 games appear below for this section of this year's Chessfest. FIDE, Patrick's site at http://www.chessfest.ca/chessfest10/...dstandings.htm & http://www.chess.ca each have the cross-table up today, & was giving reference to IA MacDonald's table - but perhaps misread his meaning of the last round score entries. Perhaps IO Bond or your IA von Keitz could better answer that question.
The 3rd game has an ambiguous Knight move.
In the 1st game, a full header is submitted below, so that all of the games can be set to it in chessbase 9 (the full header takes up a bit of extra posting space to include each time). Possibly Hugh Brodie or Hal Bond or Michael von Keitz know how/who to contact at the FIDE (a pgn can be attached at the tournament cross-table for the listing), TWIC, chessbase or chess5 or other database upload sites for sharing. The Organizers would not have any problems with this issue.
Pierre Maheux went 0-1 vs Istvan Kiss in the final round, & Richard Glew drew Joe Damsic. In addition to an unsubmitted round 4 game which currently might still be evaluated in an appeal session, the reader will notice that 4 players took byes on Friday night. To wrap up the game submissions, twenty other games follow:
Last week, submissions for the 2 top sections (Ontario Closed, Canadian Senior's Championships) arrived, so see player pages such as http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessplayer?pid=55197 to navigate (or just search for another player name sought at the main page of chessgames). At the game viewer page, one can click the opponent name (but it doesn't as of yet have a tournament [tid] page like some of their tournaments do) to navigate other similar games. Chessgames has a general policy that games in the other groups should've demonstrated that one or more players is playing > ~Expert rating - or that the game should be a real sparkling/important game.
With Organizer permission of Hal Bond, Michael von Keitz & Patrick McDonald, a total of 188 scoresheets were submitted for the drawing of lots in the 2010 Chessfest Kongress in Kitchener & have been passed along to Hugh Brodie & a couple of other local databases.
