Kevin Spraggett is a special case: incredible work ethics and dedication.

Well, I hope to get GM but I was born in Los Angeles.

Bator Sambuev and Anton Kovalyov now have Montreal addresses.

So - we have Thomas, Alex, Bator, and Anton. Who are the other two in the Montreal area? Are you counting Jean? Only one (of the five mentioned) is inactive.
It's my understanding Kevin and Pascal both received their title while they lived in Canada and they both play under the Canadian flag. Jean has already mentioned Kevin's work ethic and dedication to the game. They count in my book.

Regarding a correspondence GM title, if it were that easy to obtain I would have got one and been another Canadian born GM. Chess is chess. It's not that easy and I fell a bit short. Not quite good enough.

you just got IM. Few more years of gruelling work for GM title would be a wild guess if that is what you really want:)And KS may be slightly nuts, but national non-support for Semis for world title may have embittered him.Greatest Canadian player ever. North American, if you don't count Fischer and Morphy . Yasser was a disappointment, after all his fanfare and squandered opportunities.

GM Joel Lautier was born in Toronto (but plays for France).

Institigator rules of NHL aside, ur body of 'hysterical' factoids ARE SO INTERESTING. And Vishy was almost born in Canada (Ontario-Kitchener-almost). He had kidney surgery at Sick Kids' Hospital In TO. Pascal Charbonneau (IGM) knocked the pis# outta im @ an OlyCh. He survived.

                    Jean,

When are you going to get out there and get your GM title already? I think you're long overdue...

                      Hi Ben.

Bob Kiviaho and Jonathan Berry are Correspondence Grandmasters not just regular ones.

Too old and I can see deterioration in my game. It would take about 5 years to accumulate the norms if everything goes well, and that's a big "if".
