    Welcome aboard Bator.
    This is great stuff ;-)
    Finally it's been done. Bator is one of the most active elite players and anyone who plays in the Toronto - Montreal corridor has surely seen him play some top notch chess. To top things off he's a great guy as well. Hopefully he'll be willing and able to play for Canada at the next Olympiad :)

      Great news! Does anyone know if Anton Kovalyov plan to change his country on the FIDE list for Canada?

            If I understand the regulations correctly, Bator will be able to represent Canada in official FIDE events in one year's time.

              Top FIDE rated Canadians

              On the Canadian FIDE list ( of those playing for Canada ), Bator is now #5/6, at 2497, tied with IM Leonid Gerzhoy:

              # 1 : GM Mark Bluvshtein ( 1988 ) at 2587 ( now 16 pts. ahead of Spraggett ! );

              # 2 : GM Kevin Spraggett, 4 times Canadian Champion ( last in 1996 ), at 2571 – now playing out of Portugal;

              # 3 : GM Pascal Charbonneau, 2002 & 2004 Canadian Champion, at 2511 – now working in USA;

              # 4 : GM-elect Thomas Roussel-Roozmon ( 1988 ) at 2500.

              # 5. IM Leonid Gerzhoy at 2497;

              $ 6. GM Bator Sambuev at 2497.

              ( Anton Kovalyov is the top-rated FIDE Canadian, but still plays for Argentina )

                How about that highly rated GM's Chineese couple who moved to Montreal's area a couple of years ago?

                  Peng Xiaomin (now 2591 but with a peak of 2657) and Kanying Qin (2466) don't seem interested in representing Canada... In fact they don't even want to play in any tournament here.... Maybe they will change their mind one day...

                    Ula...la...la. Is that their approach to chess in a different country? I don't think so! They have to change that one day, I believe in that too!
