Hi chess fans, I am pleased to announce that registrations are off to a nice start (at least 38) for the 2011 Ottawa Winter Open, scheduled for January 14th-16th. Note that I have been a bit sick at home the last couple of days, and there might be more registrations sitting in the mailbox at the post office.
Some travelling players have concerns about travelling in case of inclement weather, but remember that even earlier in the day before the first round, you can simply defer your registration to a future Ottawa weekender (we have 5 events per year)! If that flexibility appeals to you, then please feel free to take advantage of the $30 triple-early discount for paying in December! Since the rest of this month can be a rather busy time of the year, I am not totally sure at this time just how many Thursday evenings I can make it out to the RA club to take payments in person. As of the writing of this post, I expect to be there tomorrow evening from 715pm to 8pm, but for all of the rest of this month, if you want to be sure of getting the $30 discount, please also feel free to mail in your registration and payment, as per the instructions at the end of the event details webpage : http://www.eoca.org/htm/tournaments_2010-11.html
Is there someone in your life who keeps asking what they can get you for Christmas? How about registration to the Ottawa Winter Open?! And if it would help, send me their email address, and I can help them register you! (of course, other holiday names are also available! ;)
Yours in chess,
Aris Marghetis, FIDE Arbiter
