    I WILL be attending the Ontario Open and will have all definite plans finalized by Monday evening.
    I am planning on staying in a Motel/Hotel for Friday and Saturday nights.
    Also, I may be bringing a surprise Chess guest (or two) with me from Ottawa.
    Still, there will be room for 3 more in my car. Hopefully, I can get away from work earlier, around 3PM - will have to talk to my bosses.

    Anyone sincerely interested in getting a ride to/from Hamilton and/or interested in sharing accomodations, please let me know ...

        Hi Mike,

        I was thinking the same thing, that the Ontario Open would be more worth while. I would be playing in the U2000 section, and at the OYCC there are a lot of kids who are underrated, and won't increase my rating that much. I think the Ontario Open will let me play against more 1900's, and hopefully get some more experience, and boost my rating a little bit too. :)

            In more ways than one. While we're having this discussion, let's not forget that you can make a pretty resilient money from hemp fibre, and the profits support Canadian farmers. Not to mention the economy of that other form of hemp, though the federal government wants to subsume that in the "urban blight" portfolio, rather than "agriculture".

              A reminder to everyone,

              This is a new location for Hamilton tournaments.
              Yes, it is a high school, but not the same one as the Winter Open. Be warned.
              Google map and driving direction on post #1 of this thread.

              Also on post #1, pre registered list of players. :)

                The list on page 5 seems to be more up to date though unsorted by section.

                        Travel and accommodations update:

                        My car is now officially full:
                        Daniel C., Mike I., Ryan G., Nathan F-D.

                        Still working on lodgings:
                        2 rooms each with 3 people are tentatively booked.
                        I'm keeping the last spot available for Laurentiu if he needs it.

                        As far as I can tell there are only 2 players entered from Eastern Ontario;
                        myself and Kevin W.

                        However, there also seem to be a few from Quebec.

                          I'm afraid to say, as I wrote Gordon Gooding yesterday, that I am unable to play: my father passed away unexpectedly earlier this month, after a fall last month at my parents' home in Paramus, New Jersey.

                          I intend to keep my commitment to play in Buffalo's own
                          5th Annual Mayor's Cup Class Championships, a 7-round FIDE-rated Swiss June 3--5, and I was supposed to post an invitation here to FM's and IM's in particular (OK, Bator too:-). EF is a bit steep at $150 with the tourney returning 70% in prizes, with $1,000-$500-$350 at the top and $300-$150 for U1800 being guaranteed. Rounds are Fri. 1 & 6pm, Sat. 9am, 1:30pm, and 6pm, Sun. 9:30am and 2:30pm, G/120 (no increment), venue Buffalo State College, Campbell Student Union, 1300 Elmwood Ave., Buffalo, NY 14222. TD & contact Michael McDuffie, arcangel8chess@yahoo.com; I am the defending champion. I hope to stop by next Monday to make it generally known that we are trying to expand the kind of tournaments we have in Buffalo and to get advice on what would make them most attractive. (I may be called down to New Jersey again, however.)

                              To Organizing committee;

                              Just wondering is there any place close by site for early morning Breakfast besides Tim Hortons?
                              Also how far are any eating restaurants etc from site?
                              Thanks
