As I mentioned a few days ago there are now almost no rooms for rent in Hamilton Saturday March 26.

Some places in Burlington that still have rooms are:

      2404 Queensway Drive
      Burlington, ON L7R 3T3
      Canada
      905-637-1547

      Comfort Inn Burlingon
      3290 South Service Rd.
      Burlington, ON L7N 3M6

            Hey Garvin,

I'm not sure if I am going to play in this one, but it looks like an enjoyable tournament to consider. Could you notify me of the new location?

              Re: Hamilton Winter Open 2011

Zach, I would suggest you to go, it is an inexpensive tournament, and if you play the way you did against me in Guelph you should be able to gain a lot more rating points in the U1900 section(maybe even win it).

I'm undecided if I'm going to go to this one, I have to talk to my club president before I make my decision.
University and Chess, a difficult mix.

Thanks for the encouragement Adam! If you decide to go into this tournament you will do very well in the open section. And thanks for the notification, Bob, I thought that the link was for the previous location, I didn't know that it was an updated link.:)

                    Re: Hamilton Winter Open 2011

That's kind of in the middle of nowhere, with no place within walking distance to eat at. There is a Boston Pizza down the road at Highland and Centennial but that tends to be a bit expensive.

                      :DFOOD
There is Turtle Jacks Muskoka Grill and Shawarma Hut in the same plaza as Boston Pizza! It is walking distance from school. This area offers variety for everyone. If you have a large group of people that wants to eat, analyze and talk this place is for you. :D Looking to get a quick pita on the go - Shawarma Hut is your place. :). There is also SUBWAY at 1775 Stone Church E, Hamilton, 5 min driving. TIM HORTONS, other restaurants, gas stations are 5 min away on car on Mud Street West. Easy access from Upper Centennial Parkway. :D

                      PARKING
Besides school parking there is lots of parking around school. Saltfleet Secondary School is located in residential area.

Thank you Bob! Another BUMP for 2011 Hamilton Winter Open.:D

Hi Mike. And if you head the other way down Highland, maybe a 3 minute drive, you have Kelsey's, Milestones and KFC. I'm getting hungry just thinking about this tournament. :)

In other words bring a car, car pool or have your parents drive you. I don't think the HSR will get you there; definitely not very well on a Sunday. If you are planning to come from Hamilton GO station after busing it into Hamilton you will have a ways to go to get to the playing site. If you are staying at a local motel, definitely have a car available. Its a lot different site than the downtown board of education which was only a few minutes walk from Hamilton Go and right across from Jackson Square and the Sheraton Hotel. Good chess everyone. If I can master the Income Tax Act by then I will try to play myself.

Public Transportation is always a big plus for any tournament to pool more participation. As well as a place to eat that is within walking distance.

If I did not have a friend to travel with this time. I probably could not attend this one easily. Right now if that friend is still going, then I'll be there.

Just a thought everyone. We are currently on a chess site that everyone seems to go to. Why dont those who need a ride and room put an ad here looking for a ride and willing to split a room to the Hamilton Winter Open or any other tourney for that matter? There has got to be a few willing to take a fellow competing friend out there right? From my own personal experience, a word of warning, if you are splitting a room, beware of snoring. Earplugs might be a good idea. Just make sure the snorer can hear the alarm clock or you've got the alarm volume really high :D You can thank me for that advice later.
