The annual Dutch extravaganza in the seaside town of Wijk aan Zee starts tomorrow. Our own GM Mark Bluvshtein is in the lists for the C Group, a Category 11 tournament with an average rating of 2507. Go Mark!!

This is always my favorite tournament of the year. Even more so this year as we have one of our own participating. Best of luck to GM Bluvshtein and we hope to see you in the "B" group next year.

I think NED-Toronto have a 6 hours difference: thus 7:30 am, and the last 6 am.

i think mark will be happy with his start 2/3, win with White over a GM, draw as black v. Lahno and the dangerous Nyzhnyk. nakamura leads the a-group with 2½/3

in contrast, Wesley So in Group B , won 2 straight games with the black pieces in rounds 5,6 against Ganguly and Fressinet 2707 to advance to solo 3rd. So drew his first 4 games before growling with 2 vicous wins.
It would be interesting to see how he fares against the 2010 Canadian champion Luke McShane in round 12.

To Mr. Gary Ruben, i like your "binocular" terminology.....it made my day...lol !

Unfortunately, Mark lost in rounds 5 and 6 to fall back a bit... Hopefully he can recover!

At this rate he'll need binoculars to see the leader.
