    Welcome, David Lavin!

I'd put it more strongly than Gary Ruben did. Unless you are a Governor, you can be elected only if no Governor is willing to stand for the position.

Toronto has already chosen its 2008-2009 slate of Governors. I don't know, possibly you'll need somebody to play Benko to your Fischer in this Palma 1970 izt analogy.

    Hi David:

Thanks for coming forward at this difficult time for CFC. Your support will be based on the support for your platform when you release it. I look forward to reviewing it, as a member. I will not have a vote, but I can show support nevertheless.

    Bob

You might need to be a CFC member if you aren't already.

I'd ask my provincial association to appoint me as a governor.

I'd also contact all the governors before the meeting with my platform and ask them for their support.

I'd try to line up people to run for the other positions as well. It could make your term more fruitful in the long run.

Read the bylaws on the CFC site if you haven't already done so.

At the Canadian Open, where the AGM takes place, buy the governors lots of beers. :)

Not having seen your platform of what you want to do I don't know if I support you or not. That part doesn't matter because I'm not a member or a governor.

    Running for CFC President

After much brooding, musing, and debate I have decided to run for President of the CFC. Chess has provided me many thousands of hours of happiness, has allowed me to meet some wonderful people, and travel to fascinating places. I feel that it is time to attempt to repay a small portion of my debt.

I think one of the greatest strengths I bring to this position is the ability and willingness to get things done. If elected, my priority will be to create an actionable business plan that the CFC Governor's and members can review prior to its implementation. This plan will be the result of extensive review and discussion with stakeholders. i promise not to bring any (or at least too many!) preconceived positions to the table. Truly, it is time to move on from a contentious past.

I will submit a more detailed platform in due course but in the meantime i would love to hear from anyone who is interested in helping to rebuild a viable and useful Chess Federation of Canada. Please contact me at davidfl321@yahoo.ca. If anyone is interested in seeing what I've been up to for the past twenty years please check out www.thelavinagency.com.

I look forward to hearing from committed members.

PS. Are there any by-laws I need t obe aware of in order to run for CFC office?
