  • Amber Blindfold 2011 Blunders

I was just wondering if our resident blindfold expert Hans Jung, or any other interested party has any comment about the quality of play and number of amazing blunders at this years event. I have to admit that I'm getting a chuckle seeing world class GM's blundering like I do in a blitz game but, it is highly unusual.

Hi Larry - check my answer in post #222 of Blindfold Chess (pg 12) - the book - that was my response last year and it hasnt changed any (basically I said it is one of the best luxury vacations in the world, the players are wined and dined and tend to relax and produce blunders) By the way what do you think of the 1000 Euro!! game of the day prize. Get your head around that. Europe is another chess planet compared to Canada.

Hey Hans, Yeah, your take on the tournament is essentialy mine. It's a vacation and the players seem to not take it all too seriously, however, it seems that this year (perhaps because it is the last) they really seem to be off form. It was really funny to watch Naka and Carlsen on the first day and Ivanchuck falling into 2 mates after going undefeated last year. Even some the rapids have had amazingly bad play by these players standards.

I love the 1000 euro daily prize. We can only dream of something like this in Canada. If I ever win Lotto Max, or something like that, I swear that I will do something really big for Chess in Canada.

Hope to see you in the Park this season if not sooner.
