General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
Just when the NBA season is approaching its end, the Toronto Raptors managed a hard earned win 102-98. Can't believe my eyes, watching the screen, and hoping the Raptors do things right.
Yetserday's game vs the Chicago Bulls was also a good game but the Raptors faltered in the endgame.
Whew! So happy with the win! Want to celebrate tomorrow lunch in the Japanese Restaurant in Sheppard + McCowan.

Imagine how Oilers fans felt watching us beat the Canucks!
Raptors have been a mess since CB left. The big talk is the Leafs,one of the best records since All Star Break. To make playoffs they must win their last 3 games,but Rangers must lose their last 3.
Who are the Raptors? Are they a chess club? What is this doing on a chess site?:)
Next thing you know, Trontonians will be blogging about the Maple Leaves! Be grateful. At least they are better than the Senators.
Toronto,centre of the hockey universe,have to now win all 3 games,Buffalo lose all 3 games then Leafs are in due to their better record against Buffalo.Slim to none of that happening....

Hi Guys,
@Bindi: The Toronto Raptors lose 4 out of every 5 games. Their wins come as rare as the May rains in Manila.
@David: Restaurants/Sports Bar/grill in Edmonton must be booming whenever the Oilers wins over the Canucks.
@John: You're not only a good chess teacher of CMA but also sports minded.
@Gordon: My sons asked me why i cheer for the Toronto Raptors - a basketball team competing in the National Basketball Association that is based in Toronto. I answered, "why not, it is my city. Sometimes i would cheer for the LA LAkers when things are down".
In chesstalk, we have climate change. Sometime ago someone talked about time share. Lately, i was almost tempted to start a thread about making money -through investment with Canadian real estate developers. And Chesstalk, with all those players with experience and highly analytical skills, is a very good site to gather opinions on the business side of things.
To start with, i invested a small amount in a time share with an international company who is building a hotel in the Bahamas. 12% annual return. And i can exit afer 3 years. What is not clear to me is the manner of my exit. Maybe i need someone to buy my time share. What if no one buys it? Will i get stuck with my investment?
One of the come ons used in the promo was that i can stay for 1 week every year free in the hotel. By the way, this is where Tiger Woods got married. But this 1 week free vacation is only when the hotel is built already, not in the first 3 years of your investment.

Buffalo has to lose all their three games in regulation time.
As a radio host put it this morning: " Leafs' chances to make it into the play-offs are about the same as the chances of Gilles Duceppe of being the next prime minister of Canada!"

When I last watched the Leafs win the Stanley Cup I never thought it would likely be the last time I'd get to see it happen.
The Senators traded Carrie. Remember what happened to Boston after they traded The Babe.
Its all over for the Toronto Maple Leafs after Tuesday night's defeat.
And so are the Toronto Raptors. They are supposed to devour the opponents......now, all that is left is the kicking.
Leafs lost out before their game was over-Buffalo won.Raptors made a huge error in not re-signing CB and let him go.Jays in most competitive division in BB-will miss playoffs again.Solution-change division or increase payroll to 200 million! FC-no threat,the Whitecaps own them.And the Argos-maybe best value for fan in ticket prices,but the Buffalo nightmare is a joke ....

I didn't think money was the problem. I thought it was that CB wanted to go to the Heat to play with Wade and James. CB is averaging under 20 points a game this season which is low for him and I think his rebounds are also off as are his assists and blocks. Possibly CB made a huge mistake in not re-signing.
