          Re: Final Standings

          Hi Geordie,

Thanks for organizing the great event. We enjoyed the time over there. Lots of space for relax in the location, free lunch first day for players, free internet access...etc. Well done!

BTW, Could you list the amount of pirze as well? If you can put together a event report, it wil be perfect.

          Thanks,

Thanks Robert. I will post a tournament report this weekend or next week. After my midterms ;)

Re: Alliston Chess Open 2011 - October 14th to 16th

The 2nd edition of the Alliston Open went off without a hitch this year. I received nothing but positive feedback and support throughout the event, so I thank you all for that!

There are many people I'd like to thank for their efforts. In no particular order...

Les Stevens, who lent us some sets and clocks, all of which were put to good use ;) He also ran the kids tourney on Saturday

Alex Ferreira, who did an impromptu simul for the kids tourney

Mikhail Egorov, who stepped in as a 'floater'

My family for helping out with rides and providing beds, couches, and a bed made out of covers for the U of T contingent.

Brian Warburton, who brought along some back up sets and analog clocks

My girlfriend, Ashley, who helped out with everything. But more importantly, she puts up with me and allows me to do crazy things like run chess tournaments

The local sponsors, for supporting chess in the community

Last but not least, Angela and Marsha from the Gibson Centre, who allowed us to use their beautiful building, once again rent free, for the entire weekend!

And thanks to anyone else who helped out who I may have missed.

Here's a rough estimate of where all the money went:

              Discounted entries: 13 x $40 = $520
              Full price entries: 2 x $60 = $120
              Sponsors: $75

              Total Revenue: $715

              Prize Fund: $310
              Open Section
              1st $120
              2nd $50

              U2000
              1st $80
              2nd $40
              3rd $20

              Pizza/Pop/Water: $120
              Printing/paper/gas money: $70
              Rating fees: $57

Hope everyone enjoyed themselves, and hope to see you all again next year!

There is one more positive printed feeback by the player (Brian Warburton) The Auroran wrote about its three seniors who played in the tournament.

                http://www.theauroran.com/online/archive
Look for October 25 issue, page 19.

                A short excerpt:
"Treated as adults in the tournament, these young players exhibited patience and focus on the game beyond their years, and contested games with spirit that lasted several hours. They were extremely competitive and showed excellent character, and are a credit to Canada, and I add, they made our seniors young once more!" (bold mine)

                  Hi Geordie:

Keep growing this tournament, and maybe one day the expenses line can contain an organizer's stipend too!

Great volunteer job you are doing.
