    It should be noted that Babson, although American, lived in Montreal for several years in the 1890s, where he was chess editor of the Montreal Daily Herald, participated in the 1894 Canadian Championship, and was one of the figures responsible for bringing the last leg of the Steinitz-Lasker world championship to Montreal.
