  • 2012 Canadian Zonal and Women's Closed : Update

We received many comments about the schedule (7 days) and decided to extend it on 8 days. Both tournaments will then take place from August 4 to August 11.
Also, players who have the required rating but are afraid it might go down can now reserve their place.

    This is from the website:

Canadian champion: Travel to the World Cup in Tromso, Norway (2000$)Travel to the Women’s world championship in Khanty Mansiysk, Russia (1000$) + 200$

I guess is twice more expensive to get to Tromso then Khantu Mansiysk :-)

Unlike the CYCC, which is a single event, this is two events with two budgets.

The prizes are not the same for both sections, it is true. However, the players will also receive money from the World championship organizer (a few thousands), so in any case the trip would not cost anything to them.

Also, the last Women's championship brought about 11 paying entries at 150$ (about 1500$,the prizes of the 2012 edition). The last Canadian closed brought about 24 paying entrees (6000$, which represents the prize fund of the 2012 edition). Of course, the prize fund represents only a part of the budget, since we have to consider the rating fees, lodging the grand-masters, etc. Also, many players in the Men's section are professionnals and it is normal that they have access to a bigger prize fund.
