The same section cap was in place last year, but we ended up with 9 teams in the Championship Section and 7 in the Reserve Section. As a result, in order to balance things out, it was decided that Waterloo B would be bumped down to the lower section. Their average rating was a shade over 1800. Had their average rating been significantly over 1750, the top team in the Reserves may have been bumped up. If the same situation were to arise this year, I assume Western would react similarly?

Yes, the team with the lesser gap between actual average rating and average rating cap would be the team that was moved to a different section.

But this would be unfair to the other teams I imagine? cuz the result showed that waterloo B, which suppose to be a Open section team, won the reserve section... Maybe u can make the players who got the byes play against each others and rate their games? Or any other options?

Re: 2012 University Chess Championship- HOTEL INFO

We have successfully negociated a hotel contract with the Residence Inn by Marriott in downtown London, on 383 Colborne Street (full directions can be found on the hotel's website: http://www.marriottresidenceinnlondon.com/index.aspx). They offer three different rooms:

One Bedroom King Suite; Sleeps 4- $149.00

Two Bedroom/One Bathroom King Suite; Sleeps 6- $209.00

Two Bedroom/Two Bathroom King Suite; Sleeps 6- $219.00

Suites are complete with a living room and a fully equipped kitchen, free high speed wireless internet access, and more. Also offered is a coin operated laundry facility, an excercise room, ect. Once again full details can be found on the hotel website.

If you are planning to book a room/rooms through the hotel, please attempt to contact them at 519-433-7222 prior to December 15, 2011, as rooms are being exclusively held in anticipation of the tournament. After the 15th, rooms will be available for public purchase, however rooms will still be offered to chess teams at the discount rate that is being offered to us.

In order to receive this discount rate, when booking your room you must either identify yourself as being with the UWO Chess Tournament, or providing them with the group code S30.

If it was unclear in our previous post, I would like to announce that Hal Bond has agreed to serve as our Tournament Director. He is a very experienced and professional TD who always ensures players the best tournament experience possible.

To register a team for the tournament, you MUST contact either Aman Hambleton (ahamble@uwo.ca) or Patrick O'Sullivan (posulli2@uwo.ca). Do not attempt to register through Hal Bond. Information about eligibilities, tournament format, ect. has been posted earlier, and you can find that above.

hmm ok... what if our teams arrive at 4AM on Saturday? Is there a place in western that open 24 hours? cuz it seems that it's the only option of Greyhound from Montreal to London(10 hours of road) ... without our players skipping their PM classes on Friday (which people may have credit labs to do..).

If you're just looking for a place to camp out and relax, ironically the Mustang Lounge (the room we've rented for this event) is open 24 hours so you could go there (has couches, tables etc.) You might be requested to leave around 6 or 7AM when the staff has to come in and set up for our event though... Details on how to get there are in some posts above I believe, its in the University Community Center.

Other than that, I'm not too sure... diner for breakfast? :) It's not too long to kill until registration at 9:00 AM, I've suffered worse!

That's great! But can you inform the security of that building about the arrival of McGill chess teams at that night? I am afraid that they may not let us in if we are not western students.. and we may then ended up on street :S.

There is no security lol its just open, you dont need to show student ID to enter the building nor the room.

                        Hey Patrick,
I went to the website of London's Marriott but I get an error message related to the coupon code, saying that apparently it's too short.
Does the coupon code only works for booking over the phone?

                        Thanks,
                        Benjamin (McGill)
