Entry fees for these types of events are usually in the $200-300 range.

Did the Canadian prize winners receive all of their prize, or did the IRS demand (and get) their cut? Supposedly, the Continental Chess Association witholds part of any prize over $800 if the winner cannot supply a US Social Security number (or something similar).

If I remember correctly, after winning a big chunk of monies in the Under-Section in the US, the rating was adjusted to Section (+1). Is it still valid?

Yes, (wow) $5448.00 is a nice chunk of change...

It seems they have a lot of money to splash around.
I admit I am astonished at the prizes -especially for sections under 2000.

here is a link to the under 1900 results (where Owen placed alone in 2nd) for a cool $3632.00 ... he and the eventual 1st place winner had a draw in the final round - that might be an interesting game to see.

It's a small world, isn't it. Owen is also a regular at the Mississauga Chess Club. He now plays with the adult club having graduated from the junior club. Owen has shown great improvement in the last year. He recently did very well in a tournament in Las Vegas.

our summer camps, and tops our tournaments - see Nov. here:

Tanraj was clear first in the U2300 section. $6355.00!
