  • A rated adult chess tournament in BC not called GPO or Keres or Labour Day Open? YES!

Wow, how exciting! A great chance to warm up for the GPO if you are from the Lower Mainland and don't want to embarrass yourself when you head to Victoria. Or maybe you are not heading to Victoria because it's a trek, but you still want to get in some tournament chess this month. Either way, you are in luck!

A 5-round, standard time control, CFC regular rated tournament will be held in Vancouver (Burnaby) this month! Preliminary details:

DATE: Friday March 23 (evening), Saturday March 24, Sunday March 25

LOCATION: SFU Burnaby Campus (8888 University Drive). A 10-minute express bus ride from the skytrain (Production Way). Also easily accessible by car. Less than a 30 minute drive from downtown Vancouver or Surrey. Wow, what a central location! Superb!

ROUNDS: 5 (1 on Friday, 2 on Saturday, 2 on Sunday)

TIME CONTROL: TBA. But regular time controls i.e. not active.

PRIZES? Yes! MONEY!! Based on entries!

ENTRY FEE? TBA shortly! Something reasonable. We were able to get the location for free so there will be a favourable entry fee to prize money ratio!

    CFC rated!

Sounds too good to be true? It gets even better! On Saturday there will a junior tournament running concurrent with the adult one. It will have shorter (active) time controls and will be 5 rounds in one day. It will be TD'd by Alice Xiao, who is a junior herself, and thus understands the issues juniors go through and will not berate them for their baggy clothes or weird slang. What an inclusive environment!

everytime it hurts, it hurts just like the first (and then you cry till there's no more tears)
