  • Remarkable game, Toronto 1866

In the following game, Michael Ivanov beat his opponent, a Mr. Sambuev who ordinarily was several classes above him in skill. What's the real story here?

I won against Bator as well. You do not see me bragging about it here. I won because he blundered, but it was a drawn game. I got lucky! There some other players who beat Bator, and were not in his class. Anyone can lose random games.

Kasparov lost to players, more then several classes below him. Players, he called chess tourists! They are very proud, that they managed to beat such a titan in one game, just like players here against Bator! Kasparov is still probably greatest player in history of the game. ;)

What is more interesting to discuss, is Bator’s record against Samsonkin and Noristyn, so called top tier opposition. :)

I think Bator is reaping them up apart in that department. I think against Samsonkin he is 13-3 and against Noristyn he is 13-2. I could be off with actual numbers, but I can say confidently, that margin is very wide. :D

Also I do not think, that this game was played in Labour Day Classic in year 1866!

That game was from the Labour Day Open, 2011.

It is not the first and not the last time Bator looses to a much lower rated player :D
If you want to win Swiss you must start winning from round one. Sometimes Bator just goes over the edge.

Lets see if he will make 5/5 in Kitchener. Grind, Bator, grind :D

Sometimes in chess anyone can get lucky, although I didn't know I was that old :)
