Thanks. The organizers seem to be commendably discreet but perhaps a little self promotion would be in order.:D

E.Z. actually I googled the tournament to find the chesstalk message.
Before that I had gone to the CFC website and followed: Player Info/Upcoming tournaments/ regular tournaments/ ontario(w/o toronto)
couldn't find the Ont open 2012. Your link chess/ca/node 905 leads to
"other tournaments" with very little useful info WHERE exactly is this "other
tournaments" on the CFC site Ordinary CFC members should be able to get
to it without too much effort.

              Re: Ontario Open

I'm really pleased to see that the Ontario Open this year is getting as much attention as it has. Previously, participation has been limited when its been held in Northern Ontario as it is a bit of a trek. So a big thank you to those who are coming. The organizers this year don't have a chesstalk account so I've been acting as an intermediate by posting here and on the CFC forums.

A big thank you to Egis as well for his prompt reply. The organizers have also asked me to pass along the fact that the top board will be able to be viewed live over the internet.

Another announcement, I've been told that some players from Southern Ontario have expressed interest in carpooling to Thunder Bay. If you are one of these players feel free to email the organizer at shawng_email_00@yahoo.com.

Also, if you've pre-registered but have still not booked your hotel, the following are the closest hotels to the tournament site:

                Super Eight: four Reservations: 1-800-800-8000
                e-mail: super8663@tbaytel.net
                439 Memorial Avenue

                The Travelodge: for Reservations (800) 578 – 7878
                www.travelodge.com
                450 Memorial Avenue

                Hope to see everyone there!

I recall back in the 1970-80s that a couple of Thunder Bay players would regularly drive down for the big tournaments in Toronto non-stop, which I think was a 24 hour drive!
