    Bob,

As with all other organizers (youth or not), we plan all our events
in conjunction with each other generally at least a year in advance.

On May 13, CMA stages its 3rd Grand Prix youth event, which has
been displayed on our 2011-12 calendar, and website for the past year:

    http://chess-math.org/pdf/tor_calendar.pdf

For this particular event we re-scheduled three times in May itself to
avoid conflicts with the CCC, the OGCC and the OHSS championships.

It is possible that you may have not had too many options.

But a word of consultation in our ear before infringing on our
schedule would have eased any misunderstanding. I have to
deal with a number of irate parents, which I don't find amusing.
Potential Grand-Prix toppers now have to make a bilious choice.

If you detect a steely glint, may I point out a recent precedent:

In similar circumstances to yours, another organizer very recently
wished to organize OCC qualifier events, and got in touch with us prior.
We were able to assist in scheduling around our events, and further
assist by promoting this organizer's events on our website, etc.

I am sure you are not unaware of the protocols involved.

Is going into June is a little bit late for a CYCC qualifier?

That left only May 12-13, most of our parents preferred the Sunday, and afternoon to avoid conflict with church. I was not aware of your Grand Prix #3, nobody at the club mentioned it.

I will give some thought to rescheduling, but may I ask, how many irate parents? Is it just 1 or 2, or a whole bunch? A private email maybe preferred, rgillanders@cogeco.ca

            Bob,

            I have PM'd you.

Our 13 May event is the Grand Prix Final, the culmination of a year's
real hard work for the participants towards a total of $3,000 in prizes.

Re. numbers affected - our Feb 5 Grand Prix 2 drew 184 competitors!:
            http://www.chesstalk.com/elo/pub/scr...is.php?no=7628

Most of the dates you mention above are not exclusively youth events,
as yours and ours are, you therefore have some latitude in choice.

May I also point out an error above - the Ontario Girls Championship is
only 1 day - Sat. 19 May - you therefore have the Sunday 20 May available,
and being a week after our Grand Prix, we can send you over 100 players!

Nothing is set in stone, but working together is far better than not:-)

The date has been moved back one week to May 20th.

A new thread has been started to avoid confusion.
