  • Team-Quebec : Week 5

Last Saturday, the kids received lessons from GM Sambuev and FM Hua. The ones that had lessons with Sambuev learned how to attack properly, by analysing Morphy's games. The older ones also had an interesting exercice, which consisted in solving positions blindfold. The results were quite satisfying.

Here are some tactics played by Alekhine they had to solve :

White to play and win. Surprisingly, the only kids to get the right answer were in the third group (the weakest), since all the players from group 1 missed it!

This problem also caused some difficulties to the first group. White to play and win.

    SOLUTION:

    They all found the first move very quickly 1. Bg6!, but missed the continuation. They went for 1... fxg6 2. Qxg6+ Ke7 3. Qf7? (3. Nf7! is the good move) 3... Ke6 4. Bb4+ c5 5. dxc5 1-0. However, Black could have played 4... Kd5!!!

Actually, one needs a computer to find a way to draw with White! Of course, with an innacurate play, everything could have happened in this position...

    Now, the points :

    Group 1:
    Lessons : Tristan Côté-Lalumière
Exercises : Hong Rui Zhu and Myriam Roy

    Group 2 :
    Lessons : William Yip
Exercises : William Yip (only one winner for this group)

    Group 3 :
    Lessons : Mattew Yip
Exercises : Maïli-Jade Ouellet and Hou Han Zhang.
