Well if to chess playing ability you add encyclopedic knowledge of Star Trek and Star Wars. plus the top level in World of Warcraft. Well what member of the opposite or same sex is going to be able to resist you. :):)

Are you under the impression that every girl/woman in this world is a ditzy, gold-digging, muscle-infatuated barbie?

You're out of line to think that intellect is not valued very highly. It sounds like the media has influenced what you think women find attractive.

So we're talking about an already attractive guy playing either chess or soccer. How attractive is just opinion, so we can hypothetically call him the same guy. You're saying the reason a woman would be attracted to the soccer player is because of the soccer, since that's the only difference. Quite frankly, I think it's a toss up between "my boyfriend is the world chess champion," and "my boyfriend is the captain of Barcelona."

How can you say that spending your every weekend and late nights playing soccer instead of
sitting at a chess board, with your foot nervously tapping, staring at some inanimate pieces while your opponent thinks of a move.
is more sexy? Who cares how you spend your time?

Chess at the top is not so unlike other sports, in that you need to be world
class to earn a good living at playing it. For most young players, it is
therefore only a hopeful dream, to be set aside once they reach maturity.

These days a chess player reaching college age is already too old to make a
living at it, if they're not already... The others entering college have wisely
          decided to do something else.

There is a certain irony in male chessplayers discussing what women find attractive in men. Carry on!

                  Allow me to disagree..
I'm saying that currently chess is definitely not sexy when you have guys like Anand and Gelfand as faces, but with the right person, it can be.

Think of the media coverage and exposure if the world chess champion was actually a decent looking guy with a banging girlfriend whom he brought to show off from time to time.

Yeah but she's the one that quit or was fired before the band broke up. So it doesn't count. :):)

No, that's what it sounds like to YOU because you're not paying attention. I did not say intellect is not valued very highly. And we're also not talking every single girl/woman in this world. We're talking majority of girls/women, and I'm saying CHESS is not valued very highly.

Just think of it this way: excellence in chess does not equate to financial success unless your talking super GM level. So a woman, even if she initially thinks of chess as intellectual and values that, is generally going to clue in within a year that this chess business just isn't going anywhere. So she's going to be asking herself (assuming she thinks your 'hot'): "Why is this hot guy wasting so much of his time playing this game to nowhere, when he could be applying that intelligence to something much more rewarding so that I can go shopping?"

Chess takes every weekend and late nights. Soccer... not even close. The whole point about chess is that it takes triple, quadruple, or more of the time that other sports take. Especially when you add study time. Unless, of course, you're so talented you don't have to study.

And where do you get this "world chess champion" crap?

Bobby Fischer was the biggest sex symbol chess ever had, and look where that ended up.

Dude, you've lost all credibility. You've already spewed that line equating chess to "celebrity status". Now you're saying it's a toss up with the majority of women between world chess champion and world class soccer celebrity.

Do you know how many women drool over the just the average NBA basketball player? Get a clue.

Well then, there, we've solved the whole chess problem. We simply CREATE the GQ World Chess Champion. Are you applying for the position?
