Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
Seems like Matthew has to take a full-point bye as everyone else below him in rating already has one? Positive for final results, but certainly dissapointing since this player travelled from Sudbury to play and certainly not to watch others play.
Game score would be cool, post or PM it whichever you prefer. Thanks!
As I'm not sleepy yet, here's that game score, with some of my comments. I have not run this game through any engine, so I hope I have all moves recorded correctly. In addition, even without being Fritzed, I know I am just an average player, so if some of these moves seem inferior to stronger players, it is because they probably are, lol! ;)

I don't recall ever playing Lee before, so it was fun to meet a totally new opponent!
1. e4 c5 2. Nc3 d6 3. g3 Nf6 (Closed Sicilian)
Black more often than not gets his kingside knight to e7, but f6 is also quite common.
4. Bg2 Nc6 5. f4
I don't think this was a good idea, given the knight on f6 vs. e7. If I remember right, this was my first long tournament in over a decade, and I was getting tired today! :(
5. ... Bg4 6. Bf3 Qc8 7. Bxg4 Qxg4 8. Qxg4 Nxg4
I forgot to ask Lee if he was already thinking last-round draw, but I was already thinking dinner, and floated through these mass exchanges. At this point though, I saw all kinds of problems defending my c2, and in turn f2, squares, from Lee's knights.
9. h3 Nf6 10. d3 g6 11. Be3 Bg7 12. O-O-O O-O-O 13. Nf3 h6 (to deny pesky Ng5)
14. e5
This is a risky pawn offer, which does not work as well without the white-squared bishop on g2. However, it seemed like an exciting idea to try in the last round! :)
14. ... Nd7 15. exd6 exd6 16. Nb5 Nb6 17. c3 Rhe8 18. Rhe1 a6
Now, White has a shot that seems to win 2 pawns. Interestingly, it works in part due to the effect on Black's pawn structure from the speculative 14. e5 pawn pseudo-sac.
19. Nxd6 Rxd6 20. Bxc5 Rxe1 21. Nxe1 Re6 22. Bxb6 Re2
When I was calculating this combination, I had looked ahead as far as this, but now, I had tremendous trouble figuring out how to get this Black rook out of my camp, while not permitting the Black knight from snaking his way in, i.e. c6-e7-d5-f4-d3 ouch! :(
23. Nf3 Rg2 24. Rg1 Re2 25. g4?
We both thought this move was not best. I think Lee's suggested d4 & Ne5 is better?!
25. ... Ne7 26. Bd4 Bxd4 27. Nxd4 Re3 28. h4 Rxd3
I deliberately gave up this pawn, vs. h3, for a few reasons. I figured this still retained a pawn advantage on the queenside, without giving up a pawn disadvantage on the kingside, I felt I had the initiative on the remote kingside that was about to open up, my knight on d4 stops Black from using f3 to get behind my f-pawn, which will roll in the next few moves, and finally, weirdly, his rook on e3 is better for me than his knight, lol!
29. h5 Nd5 30. hxg6 fxg6 31. Kc2
I wanted to create some escape for my king before my rook went soaring downfield.
31. ... Nxf4 32. Rf1 g5 33. Rxf4 Resigns

The tournament is a good success, we all saw Patrick, Hal and their team working so hard, taking lots of efforts during the three days Kitchener Festival event.
Chess players enjoyed the "board on fire" in their matches, social activity after games and lunch hot dogs as well. Blitz night has more than fun, the kids came back to hotel and still playing the blitz game till midnight...
On the highway back to Toronto, all kids agree to rate 5 over 5 to the tournament. Obviously we all appreciate Kitchener team to offer chess players such good event.
