    Here's my theory:

    Hao Wang of Edmonton, Alberta, moved to China in 2007 to train and become a Super GM, and he decided to keep his Canadian status. :D

      In tournaments where the top GMs pay the prizes, they can decide which they think is better. I suspect many sponsors would rather have a player with 5 decisive games than 5 draws (assuming the 5 decisive games are not ridiculous blowout losses).
