  • Congratulations Eric

Eric Hansen won his last round game, today, to capture a share of 1st place at the Isthmia tournament in Greece. It also landed him a GM norm (I'm pretty sure). I'm not sure if this is his 1st or not. His starting rank was 16th.

    Well done !!

    Yes, congrats Eric!

Exceeded the requirements for a GM norm, actually - he only needed a draw.

Kudos! All the more reason to bump him up to Board 2 so that he can endeavour to earn another GM norm in Istanlbul.

As I posted on the CFC forum, he can still earn a GM norm no matter what board he plays as long as he gets 9 games.

P.S. I can't seem to find it written anywhere how many rounds the event is this time around? 11 or 13?

            Re: Congratulations Eric

No matter if you can earn a GM norm from any board, his FIDE rating has now shot over 2500 and board 2 is where he belongs. What a summer Eric is having!

Congratulations on the GM norm and very a impressive (undefeated!) result in Isthmia.

Certification of title result? Does it mean it was his last GM norm?

In any case, he definitely had an incredible tournament!

I think his performance rating was 2651. He played 5 GM's.

Let's not forget Canada's Number one player is tied for first at Sants.

No, that's what the form looks like that you get from the arbiter if you have a norm. Norm = Title Result.

Eric found his way to Susan Polgar's blog today:

Canadian IM Eric Hansen continued the string of excellent results after recently sharing the 5th place in the World Junior Championship in Athens. Possibly encouraged with the presence of his trainer IM Miodrag Perunovic, Eric performed splendidly, beating the strong GM Ioannis Nikolaidis in the last round with black pieces, to finish equal first (2nd on tie-break) and claim his first GM norm.
