before I moved to Europe to do my exchange program I used my Cogeco email acount and my Ryerson university account, I also had a gmail account that I sometimes used but was something I had before I had set up home internet service

to me it makes no difference which one you use, there is no real advantage of one over the other

      How is that not logical?
sure use whatever you prefer, but don't tell me that everyone should go by your preference - where is the logic in assuming that everyone shares your own preferences

in any case explain to me how any of those emails differ in any significant way, since you often use Outlook as your interface, so really it comes down to whether you prefer to use Outlook or if you the gmail interface, not a lot of difference there from what I can see

except in some cases, such as the university requiring us to use only our Ryerson email to communicate with Ryerson so that there is no chance of someone spoofing us

lol - unless you rush out of an internet cafe in Europe and remain logged in to your Ryerson email web interface?

I'm not, hence the word if.

              Market shares.
no you are not but the person whose logic you are supporting certainly seems to be

how does market share affect me as an email user?, it does not therefore it is not a significant way

the implication is that people choose different emails for different reasons, which affects the market share.

You asked me to explain how the emails differ in any specific way. That is not the question. Whether they differ or not (they clearly do or they'd be identical.. but thats not the topic), people have their preferences.

It doesnt really matter what they find different so much as THAT they find something different. The fact that they have preference supports the analogy earlier, which was based on someone preferring one email over another as their reason to decline a free one.

by my logic, if I buy sandwich meat from you and you offer to include free bread with the meat to make my own sandwich, I will take your offer of free bread, by your logic I should buy the sanwich meat from you but go and get the free bread elsewhere instead and decdline the free bread that came with the sandwich meat - why would I want to do that?

and exactly who is gluten intolerant to their email? what is exactly the analogy you are trying to make here? for example a service provider email looks more verified to others than a gmail account you can just make up wholesale

                      Zelko,

Cogeco does not "require" that customers use their e-mail service. It's a free service offer to their customers, that's it.

I'm with Rogers. I can have free Rogers e-mail accounts, however I prefer to use my personal domains and my yahoo account. Rogers doesn't care, nor should they... nor do I for that matter.

I don't see how that responds to my message... but thanks for posting it nonetheless.

                            Hurrah! :D
My email is finally online again as of two minutes ago, 41 messages to read. :)

It must have been one nasty crash. Cogeco customers are regularly badgered by computer hackers with bogus emails posing as tech support people trying hack the system asking for people to reply with account info passwords etc. I guess maybe they finally got thru. :(

Anyway, I had a very nice and patient young lady from tech support help me thru the process of resetting passwords and getting me online. I think i will stay with Cogeco. :D

I don't think those campaigns are limited to Cogeco customers. They are trying to get access to individual banking information and other sensitive data to help them steal your identity and your cash.

Yes. I have several different email accounts and they typically say they are customer care for whatever domain your email is. The slightly higher-end ones will include the logo of the company.
