I'm starting to see these on Youtube lately. Anyone else familiar with this series? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Xfja...feature=g-vrec

I believe it was a British series.

It was a pioneering and to my eyes highly successful British tv venture. Top players met in a tournament format with one game broadcast per week. The broadcast was edited to a half hour format with commentary by the players themselves dubbed in as well as master commentary. I believe a very young Nigel Short won the first season.

Wasn't there a similar series in Quebec awhile back?

Probably the "Fou du Roi" series played in Quebec City in 1980. Jonathan Berry played - maybe he can tell us more. I don't have any more details handy.
