  • Chess in the Greater Toronto Area

The fall is the start for a new season in many chess clubs.

As S.Krapik mentioned ( http://chesstalk.info/forum/showthread.php?t=7383 ) the Scarborough CC starts with a general meeting.

B.Armstrong looks for one more player for an interesting Round-Robin event.

Willowdale CC will start its season on September 18.

Aurora CC will meet this Thursday (6pm) and Saturday (1 pm) in the Library.

Chess classes popping up everywhere check http://www.chess-math.org/ and http://annexchessclub.com.

Chess in the Library comes back in old and new locations http://www.chessinthelibrary.com/content/location

Annex CC and V.Dobrich events ran through summer and will continue further in the fall.

Please remind about your club schedule.

Someone told me yesterday that there is no Thanksgiving event in Toronto this year... is that correct?

Looking for chess on Thanksgiving weekend? Play in the Quebec Elite Championship in Montreal - a 7 round Swiss for 2000+ players (separate event for U2000). Entry fees: Elite: $50. U2000: $25.

I am considering it. Is it CFC rated?

It's not announced as being CFC-rated. CFC membership cards will be accepted, however. I believe you can still pay a separate rating fee (to the CFC - before the event) and get your own games CFC-rated if you wished.

Wouldn't that require your opponents to be CFC members as well? In other words, only games between CFC members would be rated by the CFC?

Like a FIDE rated player vs. FIDE rated player thing?

EDIT: wouldn't this serve to cause inflation if the person who rates their games with CFC happens to win 5-0 and their opponents who've lost rating choose not to rate their games with CFC? Points just materialize from nowhere don't they :D

It is quite likely that the FQE simply forgot, among other things, to update their ads in the rush that led to the "deal". My guess is that it will be FIDE and CFC rated. Maybe even FQE rated ... ;)
