    Re: Continental 2012

Eric bye, draw, loss, now vs. Kaidanov
Shabalov 1/2, loss, win, 1/2 (just now vs. granda quickly)
Kaidanov 1/2, bye, win(or loss vs. flores), now vs. Eric
Granda win, draw, bye, draw (just now vs shabalov)
Flores loss, win, loss (or win vs. Kaidanov), bye
    Eric: 0.5/2
    Shabalov 2/4
Kaidanov: 1.5/2 (im assuming he won that game)
    Granda: 2/3
    Flores: 1/3

is what I've calculated. There was one game Kaidanov - Flores where Kaidanov made the last move and had a winning position with enough time so I'm assuming he won it for these standings. The result showed a win for Flores though...

Hansen vs. Flores is the last round game , a huge game for determining standings, and Shabalov is done the tournament at this point and just waiting to see where he finishes

      Eric 0.5/3
      Shabalov 2/4
      Kaidanov 2.5/3
      Granda 2/3
      Flores 1/3

      Kaidanov - Granda
      Flores - Hansen

Everyone has clinched a qualification spot except Hansen and Flores. If Eric wins he is in, if he loses or draws he is out. Unfortunately he's Black... but its a must win game to get a WC spot.

      Go Eric!

            Re: Continental 2012

It looks like Eric has a nice time advantage.. 13 minutes to 6 minutes.. hopefully Flores can blunder in time pressure later on to give Eric a qualification spot! :D

EDIT: Now Eric has 8 minutes vs 1 minute and a VERY nice position (at least to my eyes), so there is some hope!

And Eric wins! Congratulations to him!

just checked, and yes 21...Nf6 loses to 22.Nb6. Couldn't believe it when White played Rb7.

                      Congrats, Eric.

That was an error in inputting. I took on d5 first and then played nf4. Nb6 was too obvious :D

                          thanks everyone for the support!

I got a bit lucky this tournament and gotta go home and work on many things if i want to be a competitor at the world cup rather than a Canadian tourist:D

And qualifying two different ways! Massive result for Eric, who is slowly becoming globally known as a clutch performer. In the WJCC his last 4 rounds were enough to bring him into a tie for 5th, and here his last 3 rounds were enough to bring him into a tie for 1st.

Congratulations & great chess, it was intense to watch despite the horrible relay system. :D
