  • Spice Cup - round 1

As posted on Susan Polgar's blog:

    http://www.susanpolgar.blogspot.ca/2...n-round-1.html

Canadians I see in round 1:

5 FM Aman Hambleton (2348) 1-0 GM Alejandro Ramirez (2551)
9 WGM Anna Sharevich (2294) 0-1 GM Pascal Charbonneau (2517)
    15 Iskandar Aripov (2155) 1/2 IM Leonid Gerzhoy (2469)
16 IM John Bartholomew (2446) 1-0 FM Hans Jung (2150)

Monroi has games; also via S.P. blog here:

    http://www.susanpolgar.blogspot.ca/2...ive-games.html

I hope for Aman's sake, he doesn't have to play Anna Sharevich ...
she might prove to be too much of a visual distraction! :)

Does anyone know if and maybe where these games will be broadcast?

Looks like Aman won his game against GM Ramirez and Charbonneau won against Sharevich. Jung lost and Gerzhoy drew his game...

Good start Aman! Good luck to all our Canadian players.

Glad to hear it - I am shocked that Ramirez gave up his Costa Rica FIDE affiliation for the USA. I cannot see any benefit for him in doing so unless he thinks he's going to be US champion. When I was in CR, he was like this legend that everyone was amazed by.

Yeah, unfortunately, Aman lost that game... I am not sure I trust the time information provided by Monroi, but perhaps Aman ran into clock problems?

I was surprised there are 2 games per day! That is a pretty brutal pace.

I'm watching the games from work. Boss nearly walked into my office with my mini chess board out on my desk analysing Aman's game. Seems like our future GM Aman Hambleton just drew a GM. Best of luck to him next round.

Yes, I was watching that game too. At times it seemed like Aman was on the ropes, but perhaps there never was much there despite the passed pawn.

I notice also that Hans Jung drew with Susan Polgar's son Tom (Tommy?). Pascal lost and Gerzhoy drew...

                      PASCAL vs. AMAN! Round 4!

What a game that will be! Hopefully I'll be home by the time that game starts so I can snack on some popcorn! :)

                        Grandmaster draw I guess.
