  • FM Jason Cao Talks about the WYCC

    Many of you first heard about FM Jason Cao in the WYCC 2010 where he had an incredible tournament and become the U10 World Champion. Since then Jason continues to compete at a very high level and is the highest rated U12 Canadian player in Canada. Jason will be competing at the WYCC 2012 in Maribor, Slovenia this November. Jason took the time to speak with us about the WYCC.

    Thank you Jason!

    ======================
    Question: So right off, I'm going to ask you what everyone wants to know: How does one win the World Youth Championship?

    Jason's Answer:
    "First you do need..."

    I note that Jason is the # 22 seed with his 2038 FIDE rating. Incredibly, the U.S. is sending 8 U12 players higher rated than Jason. They're obviously doing something very, very right south of the border.

      They have more FIDE rated tournaments.

          Jason's FIDE rating hasn't kept up with his true playing strength.
          He's performing at the 2200 level in CFC events and getting stronger. Admittedly, FIDE ratings for strong players tend to be somewhat lower than CFC ratings.
