  • CFC Web Site Use Survey

Over a year has passed on the new web site. It has suffered considerable criticism, but none the less, has good functionality. The website is mostly updated by volunteers who already have heavy duties (myself, Michael VK, and Bob A).

I am conducting a poll open to both members and non-members of the CFC regarding web site usage.
    40
CFC member: 5 or more times per week
    15.00%
    6
CFC member: 2 - 4 times per week
    22.50%
    9
    CFC member: once per week
    22.50%
    9
CFC member: once or twice per month
    27.50%
    11
    CFC member: never
    5.00%
    2
Non member: 5 or more times per week
    0.00%
    0
Non member: 2 - 4 times per week
    0.00%
    0
    Non member: once per week
    0.00%
    0
Non member: once or twice per month
    2.50%
    1
    Non member: never
    5.00%

    The poll is expired.

Does the above include visiting the discussion forum?

I suppose so (although that's pretty marginal :-).

I will work down to see the reasons people go in a later poll.

Eventually I'll be working to tie this in with the magazine format polls I'll be doing.

I guess the point is that I rarely visit any other part of the site.

I guess you can choose to overlook use of the site as simply a link, as I mentioned we'll get to that sort of thing later.

The poll should have a possible answer: every Thursday :D

Yes. I think that used to be the only reason people went to the web site. Obviously we are trying to slowly find other reasons to go.

Move the News section up by 75% :) It would eliminate a scrolling down and would save time for your regular readers.

                  My answer : ALMOST never.
In fact, the CFC site lack an important feature : a RSS feed !!!
Why take time to visit a site just to check for novelty ?

Please excuse my poor english... so in french.

The site needs fresh regular(preferably daily) chess content to attract viewers. Otherwise there is no paricular reason for non-CFC members to visit the site, let alone join the CFC. The monthly mag in whatever format is just not frequent enough chess news/content to satisfy the current market.

A message board is fine but now it's time to upgrade.

They should do what the USCF does for its website - post canadian chess news on a regular basis instead of on the magazine. CFC is so backwards in its thought process that I'm surprised it hasn't been brought down by the CMA already.

There's no shortage of ideas. There's a large shortage of people who will do anything.

The executive and governors are supposed to be the workers. The majority simply pay their membership and want to play.

                          Chess is the entertainment business.

At one time .... maybe 10 years ago or so, most tournament organizers submitted a short report on their report and these would go in the magazine.

These could now go up on the web site, weekly (for example), but we have a shortage of people submitting reports right now. This is one of the things that I think people want to see, and we are trying to address in our CCN Committee.

                              Local Tournament Reports

Whenever I see a local tournament report, I try to get it into the next CFC " News " Forum post. It is then copied onto the CFC Facebook page, and the CFC Website under " Latest News ".
