Larry, can you double-check a Michael's town and province. (Did he move to QC?)

Michael Kleinman now lives in Montreal, but I thought that Michael Song was still living in Ontario Could someone confirm this?

          Hi Felix,

He is probably going to school here but I think Toronto is still home.

Michael Song didn't move to QC. We just moved from North York to Thornhill, ON in August; haven't updated that on CFC yet though.

Did the 2012 champion-David Zhang receive an invitation? Seems wrong otherwise.

                  Hi Larry,

Looks like there is no BC player on the list. The BC Junior is going on this weekend. In CFC Handbook Section 10, for Canadian Junior Championship we have:

                  1053. Players:

The following players shall be eligible to participate in the Junior Tournament provided they comply with the formal entry requirements of Article 1057:

                  (a) The Provincial Champion ordinary resident in each Province.
Does not look right, but maybe just to me.

I knew that, CMA made a bid with the intention to organize a strong CJ.

What I don't know is if the Governors can vote on something against our own Handbook. Apparently they can!

If the BC Junior championship is this weekend, don't you think it might be a bit late in the process to wait for the winner of that tournament to determine whether or not they can make it to Toronto for the CJC? (and then extend the offer to 2nd place etc?)

I don't know how many 'spots' were possible given the timeframe for the tournament. I seem to recall another post (can't find it now) that indicated some obvious candidates could not accept for whatever reason(s).

                          Hi Andrei,

Chess'n Math submitted a bid and it was accepted by the Governors. I am happy with the field and I am very proud of the accomplishments of these young Canadians to-date. We hope to put on an event that they will remember for a life-time!

This is the strongest Canadian Junior in decades!

There are at least a dozen parents who are unhappy with our selection for this event...some are good friends of mine and Chess'n Math. However, we have done our best to select a class field for this Canadian Championship and that is what allows me to sleep well at night :)

BTW, many of the players who did not make the cut this time are talented and deserve their chance in the future...maybe CMA should bring back the Futurity events that it organized in the past.

Hopefully the Canadian Junior Championship will return to its former status of Canada's "showcase for elite young Canadian players", that it rightfully deserves. That was one of the ideas that CMA had behind this bid...we felt Canada deserved the best!

Right now we have incredible talent like Eric, Aman, and Raja who are travelling the world looking for those elusive International titles...Canadian chess has not seen this kind of energy in a long time! We live in a great country, we have impressive chess talent and we are living in exciting times!

FYI, this is how the Governors voted on our bid:

                          RESULTS OF E-MAIL VOTING:

Question 1. Do you support the 2013 Canadian Junior being awarded to the CMA?

Motion 1: To accept the CMA Canadian Junior 2013 bid:

Way to go Larry! It makes me almost regret that I am now a bit overaged for it. On paper it should be one if not the most memorable Canadian Junior ever, assuming that people will be able to see games and results daily.
