After 6 Rounds -- with 5 wins and a draw -- Magnus has a 3100+++ performance rating and will be the highest rated player in the history of our great game -- Chess!

Magnus makes the other players look incredibly "normal" while he plays at a "genius" level! :D

Unfortunately they play "normal". Aronian and Vichy Ananad are struggling with their form for a long time now, not just in this tournament. Magnus is the only one who really enjoys playing, and it shows beautifully, like in today's destroyment of Polgar. I wish he will reach 3000 level.

This must be one of the best ways to promote chess and not by live broadcast to the general chess-playing public from a chess engine. Perhaps, they may need to insert commercials to attract sponsors while waiting for the next move of the game. We need live commentators to explain the whole thought process of how to play the game. We can learn how to carefully evaluate all available options, explore alternative possibilities and how to take careful steps towards resolving any conflicts that may arise from these grandmasters acting as commentators.

Very nice and informative! Great showcase and model to popularize chess in the future.

Can you imagine watching NBA, NHL, and MLB, boxing, soccer or similar sports with a muted volume control? No fun, right? They, the game commentators were that one’s making games exciting! If any sport association attracts significant number of audiences (FIDE has the second largest association members second only to FIFA), a potential sponsors most likely will be interested in advertising their products through commercials. Hence, the opportunities presented themselves. Sponsors are looking for return in their investments.

I received a Facebook message this afternoon from the previous highest rated player in the history of chess -- GM Garry Kasparov:


My congratulations to Magnus Carlsen, who just passed my 13-year-old rating record while dominating the tournament in London. Born on April 13 and the 13th World Champion, 13 was always "my" number, so it is appropriate. Nor is it a surprise that it is Magnus to achieve it! He has rare gifts, and one of them is the will and work ethic to make the most of the others.
